“I have known Angela through LinkedIn for several years and her quality of translation and time frame are really exceptional. Angela had agreed to translate all documents and websites of our small NGO called ANAK from French to English. She is very reliable, efficient and very professional. In fact many of my English-speaking friends are very impressed by the high quality of her work performed within a short time frame. I highly recommend her for her outstanding professionalism and efficiency.” - Denis Marx, President of Anak France and Past President of Anak Switzerland.

“We are happy to work with Angela on our Spanish/French/English translation projects. She has been able to provide quick turnaround times and the quality of her English translations is superb. We would recommend her translation services to any translation agency who is seeking a reliable and responsible supplier.” - Lenka de Graafova, M.A., Managing Director, LingoStar Language Services Inc., Vancouver, BC, Canada.

Translation is a professional activity whereby the meaning of a written text is rendered into another language. It requires specialized training in addition to a wide knowledge about the source language and mastery of the target language. Translators are Certified by passing a written examination in a specific language combination e.g. Spanish to English or French to English in my case.

With over 35 years of professional linguistic experience, I offer fast and accurate Certified French to English and Spanish to English translations (as well as editing and proofreading) in the following subjects:

Administration, Advertising, Agriculture, Aquaculture, Architecture, Art, Biology, Business, Charities, Commerce, Conferences, Construction, Contracts, Ecology, Education, Environment, Film, Forestry, Health, Immigration, Insurance, Job Search, Law, Law Enforcement, Literature, Manufacturing, Marketing, Media, Medicine, Mining, Music, News, Photography, Poetry, Politics, Real Estate, Refugees, Television, Tourism, Trade, Trade Shows, Travel and Websites.

I charge for most translation (and editing) projects on a per word basis. Send me a scan of your document via e-mail and I will be happy to count up the words and send you a quotation.

Consecutive Interpretation

Interpretation is a professional activity in which the meaning of spoken messages in one language is rendered faithfully into another language for a specific audience. Either simultaneous or consecutive, interpretation can be used in a number of different contexts, ranging from multilingual and multinational conferences, to business meetings, court sessions or one-on-one consultations. Excellent knowledge of both source and target languages is required as well as extensive training and other specialized skills.

I provide Consecutive Interpreting and Liaison Interpreting for business meetings between French and English and between Spanish and English. As both a Business Interpreter and a Diplomatic Interpreter, I provide the means for business partners and government Ministers/Presidents to communicate smoothly with each other. If your business is not located in Vancouver, I can offer Remote Interpreting via Telephone or Skype, etc. I invoice these types of services on an hourly basis, but half-day rates and full-day rates can also be negotiated.

In addition, I am a French/English and Spanish/English Health Care Interpreter helping patients and medical professionals to communicate with each other in hospitals, doctors' offices, medical centres, and other health care settings. I currently work as a Contractor Interpreter for the Provincial Language Service of the Provincial Health Services Authority of British Columbia.

I am moreover a French/English and Spanish/English Community Interpreter with the Interpretation & Translation Services (ITS), which is part of Abbotsford Community Services. ITS provides professional interpretation services to government agencies and businesses, which include medical centres, police departments and WorkSafe BC, among others.

Most recently, I joined the roster of freelance interpreters with DIVERSEcity Community Resources Society, whose end clients are individuals, community agencies, public and private institutions, government ministries and businesses throughout Greater Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.

You can, of course, also hire me directly to assist you in your communication with private medical care or legal appointments. I invoice this type of service on an hourly basis.

My very first interpreting experience, back in 1983, was as a volunteer for American doctors and dentists on a medical mission in Choluteca, Honduras. My most memorable assignment was interpreting during the 25-hour delivery of a baby girl by a 16-year-old refugee from El Salvador in Vancouver.

With the rising popularity of video for advertising, marketing and promotion, you will gain more business if your video is adapted languagewise to reach all of your potential customers. If your video is now only in French or only in Spanish, I can open it up to a wider audience by providing it with English subtitles. This type of project is multi-faceted, however, as it involves three potential steps: 1) Transcribing the original audio file (in Spanish or French) into a script; 2) Translating that script into English; and 3) Inserting the English subtitles into your video. I can provide one of these steps, two of these steps or all three of these steps according to your needs. For steps 1 and 3, I invoice on an hourly basis and for step 2, I invoice on a per-word basis. If you would like to see my work on line, I can provide you with links to YouTube or Vimeo projects I have been involved in as subtitler.

Language Teaching

I teach English, French and Spanish. I have taught French at college (university) level, Spanish for Advanced Placement (AP) tests (for entry into Ivy League Schools in the USA), and English as a Second Language from beginners to advanced (Cambridge levels A1, A2, B1, B2 and C1 as well as YLE and KET, PET and IELTS exam preparation). My experience includes face-to-face, one-on-one, in school classrooms and in business settings. I am currently available for short-term teaching contracts while long-term contracts are negotiable. I can either move temporarily to where you are, if you are a larger audience, or we can schedule regular language teaching sessions over Skype.
